After the women’s 3000 m race competition was continued by men in distance 5000 m. 19 athletes from 10 countries took part in it.
The gold medal was won by Italian speed skater Davide Ghiotto, who participated in the ISU World Cup Speed Skating (Minsk, 17–18 March 2018) and the Olympic Games-2018 in PyeongChang. The winner’s result was 6:30.66.
His compatriot Michele Malfatti was ranked the 2nd – 6:36.91. The bronze medal went to the speedskater from Kazakhstan Dmitriy Morozov with the result of 6:42.94.
«I think for me this race was easier than for other participants as I have already competed on this stadium during the World Cup. Nevertheless all athletes have very high level, as well as the championship itself», – Davide Ghiotto commented on his result and added: – «I like Belarus and Minsk very much. Unfortunately, during the competitions I don’t have opportunity to enjoy and appreciate all the hospitality of the hosting countries. However thanks to this championship I could stay in Belarus for a week».
In this discipline Belarus was represented by three speedskaters: Hleb Astapau, Ilya Skavarodkin and Aliaksei Kirpichnik. Kirpichnik has improved his personal record in 5000 m. He took the 4th place with time 6:44.60.
